The Kalina was also perceived as the tree of blood and lineage, symbolizing the bond between generations and pride in ancestors. According to folk beliefs, the ruby berries of the Kalina symbolize the unbroken spirit and courage of the people who shed blood and gave their lives in the fight for the Motherland.
